Uganda Terrorist Bombings: Direct Relief Responds

In response to the July 11 terrorist bombings in Kampala, Direct Relief International today authorized an immediate cash grant of $30,000 to cover emergency medical needs of victims. The funds are being provided to AMREF’s (African Medical Research and Education Foundation) Uganda office in response to an urgent request from the Ministry of Health struggling to care for the mass-casualty situation caused by the bombings.

U.S. Gulf Coast, Haiti and Caribbean on High Alert for Active 2010 Hurricane Season

Starting June 1, millions of people in the United States Gulf States, Central America, Haiti and other Caribbean countries will be on high alert as the 2010 hurricane season officially begins. Experts are predicting a significant Atlantic hurricane season, with an expected 15 named storms, eight hurricanes, four Major Hurricanes and a 70 percent probability that a major hurricane will make landfall in the U.S.  Direct Relief International is leading the effort to help community health centers prepare for medical needs during storm emergencies by shipping U.S. Hurricane Preparedness  Hurricane Preparedness Modules to 30 healthcare facilities in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Direct Relief International Teams Up with Music for Relief to Fund Small Haitian Nonprofits

Music for Relief has teamed up with Direct Relief International to provide grants of up to $25,000 to small Haiti-based nonprofit organizations working in education and reconstruction in Haiti. The funds will allow groups working in their communities long before the earthquake struck to continue to serve the people in greatest need.

Gulf Oil Spill: Direct Relief and BD Helping to Save Marine Mammals

On April 20, a major oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, adversely impacting wildlife in the region.  In response, Direct Relief International is shipping over 30,000 donated syringes and other medical supplies to animal rescue and rehabilitation sites in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. The assortment of syringes will be used to feed and medicate sea birds, sea turtles, dolphins and other marine mammals. Direct Relief received the syringes as a donation from BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company).

CSL Behring Medical Product Donation Helps Meet Critical Need for Ongoing Relief Effort in Haiti

Direct Relief International announced today that CSL Behring has donated life-saving medicines valued at more than $100,000 to assist earthquake victims in Haiti who are at risk of tetanus or hepatitis B infections. The products will be used in clinics at Hôpital Albert Schweitzer in Deschapelles.

Direct Relief International today announced that it is committing $1.2 million—approximately one-third of the cash support it has received for recovery efforts in Haiti—to support the establishment of prosthetics and orthotics services and the provision of needed assistive devices and rehabilitation to enable long-term response efforts for the people affected by the recent earthquake.

Direct Relief International está respondiendo al terremoto de magnitud 7.0 y sus replicas que ayer 12 de enero azotaron a Haití. El sismo, cuyo epicentro se localizó cerca de Puerto Príncipe, destruyó un hospital en Petionville y dañó a otros edificios.
