Republishing Images:

A Direct Relief partner for over two decades, BD is a medical technology company that collaborates on numerous initiatives, providing cash support and medical products.

Quick Facts

BD supports Direct Relief through volunteer services trips, which connect employees with technical expertise to overseas healthcare providers.


BD also sponsors the Helping Build Healthy Communities program, which funds community health centers as they reach underserved and vulnerable populations.


Large-scale donations of needles, syringes and other products from BD also enable many Direct Relief initiatives, including those addressing tuberculosis, human papillomavirus and opioid addiction.

Building Healthy Communities

Awarding Innovation in Community Health

The Helping Build Healthy Communities initiative is funded by BD and implemented with Direct Relief and the National Association of Community Health Centers. The program provides award funding and products to community health centers to support innovative approaches in delivering health care to underserved populations. 

Center for Heathy Aging Patient Maria, and Clinical Pharmacist Michael V. Baxter meet for a consultation at Urban Health Plan, Inc. in Bronx, New York. They laugh along with Maria’s daughter who sits just out of sight.  Urban Health Plan’s Center for Healthy Aging in Bronx, New York aims to use its award funding to improve the health and quality of life of elderly patients and their caregivers through an integrated care team conducting proactive screenings to identify and address patients’ unique needs. Direct Relief along with BD and the National Association of Community Health Centers recently honored Urban Health Plan in Bronx, New York with the “Innovations in Care” award which recognizes health centers in low-resource areas for their success in identifying and assisting vulnerable people manage complex chronic diseases. With the award, Urban Health Plan received a $200,000 grant to build upon their successful work in their Center for Health Aging clinic.
