Every Tuesday morning a bright-eyed spunky woman drives to Direct Relief and energetically leads a team of volunteers. Although all of our volunteers are very special, there is one incredible thing about Edythe Kirchmaier – she is about to turn 105.
Edythe has been serving others for more than a century, 40 years of which have been as a volunteer with Direct Relief. As Edythe approaches her 105th birthday, she hopes to inspire the world to make a difference, as she has, by raising awareness for the charity to which she’s dedicated much of her life, Direct Relief.
To honor the active centenarian and celebrate her milestone birthday, Direct Relief will host a Facebook event called Edythe’s 105th Birthday Challenge that allows people to wish Edythe a happy birthday by lighting a candle on the world’s largest virtual birthday cake and becoming a fan of her beloved charity.
The goal of Edythe’s 105th Birthday Challenge is to generate 105,000 birthday wishes for Edythe, which will equate to 105,000 Facebook fans for Direct Relief and make Edythe’s birthday wish come true.
