With Latest Shipment, Direct Relief Facilitates More than 10 Million Covid-19 Vaccines between U.S., Mexico

Over the past seven days, Direct Relief has delivered 374 shipments of requested medical aid to 45 U.S. states and territories and nine countries worldwide.

The shipments contained 4.2 million defined daily doses of medication, including therapies to treat hospitalized Covid-19 patients, mental health medications, hemophilia treatment drugs, cancer therapies, insulin, rare disease therapies, antibiotics, prenatal vitamins, and personal protective equipment.

This week, 2,160,900 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Toluca, Mexico, as a result of a donation between the U.S. and Mexico governments, with logistical support from Direct Relief.

Direct Relief, in coordination with FedEx, has supported the delivery of more than 10 million Covid-19 doses between the two countries. The organization served as the licensed distributor exporting the vaccines, and Thursday’s delivery is the fifth donation from the U.S. Government to Mexico of Covid-19 vaccines that Direct Relief has helped deliver.

In June, Mexico became the first country to receive Covid vaccines donated by the U.S. government when FedEx delivered 1.35 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Covid-19 vaccine. Direct Relief facilitated that donation.

Direct Relief also helped transport 3.5 million Moderna Covid-19 vaccine doses from the U.S. Government to Mexico between August and September.

Since January 1, 2021, Direct Relief has delivered 21.2K shipments to 2,356 organizations in 55 US states and territories and 98 countries. These shipments contained 252.7M defined daily doses of medication valued at $1.8B (wholesale) and totaled 8.4M lbs.

Direct Relief has also supported 479 organizations in 45 countries with $59 million in grant funding.
