Over the past seven days, Direct Relief has delivered 284 shipments of requested medical aid to 40 U.S. states and territories and nine countries worldwide.

Direct Relief Staff Visit Unbroken
Direct Relief staff visited a rehabilitation hospital in Lviv, Ukraine, this week, where rehabilitation services are offered to civilians and military members injured in the war. The Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center is part of the First Medical Union of Lviv, an umbrella association of multi-specialty clinics that has provided care to 80,000 internally displaced persons since the beginning of the war. The programs focus on amputation recovery, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychosocial support.
Direct Relief has granted $1 million to Unbroken to procure rehabilitation equipment, develop treatment protocols, and train rehabilitation personnel.
Responding to California Storms
Another atmospheric river system swept over California this week, dumping rain on an already saturated region. Direct Relief has been responding to this year’s series of storms, with funding to support first responders as well as medical aid to health facilities in storm-impacted areas.
Direct Relief recently donated a high-water Lenco Advanced Rescue Medevac vehicle, which was dispatched this week by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department to the Mammoth Area to support rescue efforts in the deep snow. The four-wheel-drive truck can traverse water and mud up to nearly 4 feet deep, endure direct flames briefly, and scale 60-degree slopes.
This week’s storm response shipments included PPE, wipes, air purifiers and tents for the Universal Community Health Center in Los Angeles and 1,000 personal care kits for Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas.
“We are currently in a major flooding event, which is expected to peak this weekend. A large number of families have been moved into shelters and will greatly increase after this weekend’s flood expansion,” staff at Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas reported. “The families who have received the kits so far are very grateful. Many of their homes have been destroyed, and they have been left with very little… Your support is greatly appreciated and helps our community.”
