Based in Poland, Nick Allen has worked in journalism since 1996 and spent 16 years in Russia and Ukraine since his first visit to the former Soviet Union in 1988. Originally from the UK, he studied German and Russian at the University of Bath. He has written for many international publications, including the Daily Telegraph, Der Spiegel magazine and The Moscow Times. He also worked in the Moscow and Islamabad bureaus of the German Press Agency dpa, and as Eastern Europe editor for the bne IntelliNews business website and magazine.
