A key partner with Direct Relief on humanitarian health efforts and responses, Facebook's tools have enhanced global response to communities impacted by disaster.
Connecting to the World
Facebook’s platform and online tools have been critical to real-time emergency response. Direct Relief began utilizing Facebook disaster maps to respond to the Thomas Fire and Montecito mudslides of December 2017 and January 2018, when population maps allowed Direct Relief to understand how large numbers of people behave during crisis events, providing insights about how best to respond to medical needs.
Facebook’s Community Help tool also amplified an island-wide influenza vaccination effort in Puerto Rico. Direct Relief also worked extensively with Messenger to communicate with the public about emergency responses for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.
